Marshals Association
The mission of the International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA) is to aid in the preservation of life and property by advocating, promoting and providing leadership in the prevention or mitigation of fire, explosions and other related hazardous conditions.
The 2000 edition of the Model Fireworks Law is now available to view online in PDF format, and was prepared by the International Fire Marshals Association and published by NFPA.
Benefits of Membership
The International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA), formerly known as the Fire Marshals Association of North America, was formed in 1906. IFMA gives members of the fire prevention community an avenue to discuss items of mutual interest and to participate in activities to benefit the association. IFMA provides training opportunities, Chapter Meetings and Business Meetings during the year.
Who May Join
Membership in the International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA) is open to any member of NFPA that meets the requirements of one of the membership classifications listed below. If you are not a member of NFPA please fill out an NFPA and IFMA application.
- Member - A fire official, who have been lawfully appointed and authorized by the authority having jurisdiction and charged with the statutory responsibilities and duties for fire prevention accomplished through enforcement of fire laws and regulations, property inspections, public fire safety education, or investigation of the cause and origin of fires are eligible for membership.
- Associate Member - A member of NFPA who does not qualify for Member status as outlined above. Associate Members shall not hold an elective office or vote in the affairs of the Association.
- Affiliate Member - An Affiliate Member of the NFPA who is interested in the stated mission and objectives of the International Fire Marshals Association. Affiliate Members shall not hold an elected office or vote in the affairs of the Association.
Goals and Objectives
- to unite for mutual benefit those public officials engaged primarily in the prevention of fire, the control of arson, and/or public fire safety education.
- to provide educational and professional development opportunities through technology, certification and prevention programs.
- to provide a resource service to the members of IFMA.
- to actively market and promote positive, dynamic and pro-active profile for IFMA.
- to actively participate in the codes and standards making process.
- to monitor national fire safety legislative proposals and attempt to influence proposals at the national, state, and local level.
- to expand IFMA membership, create new chapters, and enhance membership participation at all levels.
- to develop mechanisms for Chapters to participate in IFMA.
- to monitor and support research and development of solutions to fire protection and fire prevention problems.
